Black Tan & White

For the Bernese Mountain Dog, this is a tricolor of jet-black ground, rich rust markings and clear white. The AKC standard places rust over the eyes, on the cheeks, both sides of the chest, all four legs and under the tail. White forms a facial blaze and muzzle band, typically an inverted cross on the chest, and the tail tip. White feet are desired but must not extend above the pasterns; white legs or a white collar are serious faults. A non-black ground is disqualifying.
