Developed in Germany in the 1980s

The UKC standard says German Yorkshire Terrier breeders Mr. and Mrs. Biewer are believed to have started the breed around 1984. They spent several years refining its type; it was introduced more widely in the United States in 2003 and recognized by the UKC in 2016.

A small toy-type terrier with a long coat

The UKC standard describes a fine- to medium-boned, elegant, tricolored toy-type terrier. Its outline appears square but the body may be slightly longer than tall. The long, silky coat has no undercoat and is ideally parted down the middle to fall evenly on both sides.

Head-colour combinations and white legs and tail tip

Under the UKC standard, the body is black or blue and white; tan or gold is confined to the head and around the anal opening. The head may combine black or blue, white and gold or tan, or use either black or blue with gold or tan, or gold or tan with white. Some black or blue must appear on the topline. White extends up the chest and neck to the chin and covers the stomach, legs and tail tip.
