Background and human relationship

Developed in Germany as a versatile gundog, with a studbook established in 1897. Selected for work beyond pointing alone, it is the short-coated type known as Kurzhaar.

Build and coat

A balanced athletic build combines strength, endurance and speed under a short glossy coat. It remains distinct from the wirehaired breed with its harsh coat and facial furnishings.

Brown self-colour, brown with white, dark or light brown roan and brown-marked white occur, with corresponding black-based colours. Large patches differ from fine roan intermixture.
