The Black-throated Coucal is a large coucal with a black head and breast and a white belly. It hides in lowland forest edge and wetland thickets in western and central Africa.
The head, breast, and back are black, with buff barring on the back. The wings are rufous-chestnut, the belly is white, and the tail has a blue gloss.
It skulks in dense second growth along forest edges and in grassy swamps. It forages on or near the ground for insects, and also eats snails and frogs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
