This honeyeater is found in Fiji. The Taveuni population was recorded under an older subspecies name, and the account describes frequent calling at dawn in forest and especially along forest margins.
In the Taveuni records, a small yellow wattle sits below the base of the bill. Its size varies, and the account suggests that age may explain some of that variation.
The Taveuni birds recorded under the former subspecies name called often at dawn in forest, especially along forest margins; they were uncommon on the coast and in cleared places.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
