This small bird occurs in the Darién region from eastern Panama to north-western Colombia. Males are blue-green and females mostly green; the species uses humid lowland forest.
The male is aquamarine blue-green, with a blue rump and black back, lores, and tail; the wings are green with black flight feathers. The female is green above and yellow-green below, with olive flanks. Both sexes have pale irises.
It is recorded in humid lowland and foothill forest, and also visits forest edges and scrub. Colombian records described in the species account come from 50–600 m; that range is local, not a full-range elevation limit.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
