This hummingbird lives on the western Andean slope of Colombia and Ecuador. Males have long violet-blue tails; females are smaller and lack the long tail.
The male shimmers in green, blue, and purple and carries long violet-blue tail feathers. The smaller female is more subdued and lacks the male’s long tail.
It feeds on nectar and small insects, following a circuit of flowering sites along forest edges. It can pierce flower bases with its short bill to reach nectar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
