The Crimson-fronted Barbet is a small forest barbet in Sri Lanka. A male of the nominate subspecies has a red forehead and orange-golden throat, and visits fruiting trees.
The nominate male has a stocky green body, red forehead, golden areas above and below the eye, a black line through the eye, and blue on the cheeks. The throat is orange-golden, with red-orange marks on the upper breast. Females have duller chest marks; immatures are duller overall with a paler throat.
It eats fruit and gathers at fruiting trees. In Sri Lanka, the account reports nesting from December through September. Both adults excavate a cavity under a branch, usually lay two or three eggs, and take part in incubation and care of the young.
In the nominate Sri Lankan form, the legs and feet are red.
