The Peruvian Pelican is a large pelican of the Pacific coast along the Humboldt Current. It catches fish near the surface and also uses areas around fishing ports.
Its white head has a yellowish tint. The long bill is yellow at the base and reddish at the tip and sides, and a large bluish pouch hangs beneath the throat. The dark body is spotted with white. Plumage becomes lighter with age.
It eats fish such as anchovies, catching them by plunging toward the water or while floating on it. Near fishing ports and facilities, it may also eat fish waste from the fishing industry.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
