The Yellow Tit is endemic to Taiwan’s mountains and uses the canopy of primary broadleaf forest. Males are strikingly black and yellow, while females and juveniles differ in color and crest shape.
The male has a black head, neck, and front of the crest, with a white rear crest and bright yellow sides to the face. Its upperparts are black, and the wings have blue edges and white tips. Females are duller, with an olive mantle, paler yellow underparts, and shorter crest; juveniles have a blue-gray crest and whitish underparts washed with yellow.
It lives in the canopy of primary broadleaf forest. It occurs high in the mountains and is recorded at lower elevations in winter.
