The yellow-cheeked tit is a small tit with yellow cheeks and a black crest. In Hong Kong, a population thought to derive from ex-captive birds has become established in mature woodland.
Males identified in the Hong Kong population have a yellow face with a black line behind the eye, a black crest, and mostly black underparts. Females are duller, with greyish, yellow-tinged throat and chest. The species is 13–15 cm long.
In Hong Kong’s mature woodland, it forages in the lower canopy for fruit, seeds, insects, and caterpillars. It is seen in pairs or small parties and may join mixed-species flocks outside the breeding period.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
