The Juan Fernández fur seal lives on islands off Chile. It eats squid and fish and uses steep, rocky shores for resting and breeding.
Males have a long muzzle and a dark mane with white-tipped hairs. Females are paler underneath, especially on the chest.
It feeds mainly on squid and fish. When resting in the water, it may hold its head down in a vertical position with the hind flippers above the surface.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
