This tanager is recorded in a university project area in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Only males have a black cap, and small flocks move through the canopy.
Both sexes are described as colorful, but only the male has the black cap. The account does not give further plumage detail.
In the IlhaViva project area, small flocks use the canopy of open areas and forest edges, rarely entering more intact forest. They eat berries and small animals; the account notes caterpillar-searching on Leucaena, a common tree at the local sites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
