An antelope described in a Marakele National Park account from South Africa, living in open savanna woodland and nearby grassland.
The back is dark reddish brown with a purplish sheen. Bulls are darker than cows, and both sexes have ringed horns except at the tips.
It often lives in small herds, which may grow larger near water or good grazing. It is a grazer that feeds on grass.
