The southern African hedgehog has a white band across its forehead and a range of separated populations in southern Africa.
It has spines on its back and fine fur on the face and belly. A white band across the forehead is a distinctive mark.
It is mostly nocturnal and solitary, feeding mainly on insects and worms. When threatened, it curls into a ball with its spines facing outward.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
