The Silvery-fronted Tapaculo occurs from Costa Rica into western Panama, in dense understory of wet montane forest and bamboo.
The male is sooty black, with a silver-gray forehead and short eyebrow and rufous barring on the flanks and undertail coverts. The female is warm dark brown, scalloped with black on the back.
It uses dense low vegetation in montane forest, adjacent second growth, and bamboo thickets by ravines. It hops along the ground and searches crevices for insect larvae and spiders.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
