This hawk lives in lowlands south of the Amazon River. A study between Brazil's Madeira and Purus rivers recorded its nesting and plumage.
One adult observed at Tupana, Brazil, in December 2007 had a dark crown, a short white supercilium, and dark streaks on the sides of the neck and upper breast.
At Tupana, a pair used a nest in the forest. One bird was recorded perching in a tall tree early in the morning before heading toward the nest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
