The Taiwan Barwing is endemic to Taiwan and lives in broadleaf and mixed forests at about 1,300–2,500 m.
It has a rounded head with a short crest, a dark chestnut head, gray-brown upper breast and back, and blackish-brown bars across the tail. The sexes show no obvious difference.
It appears in small groups and moves along trunks or into shrubs below the canopy to feed. It eats mainly insects, with fruit and seeds also recorded.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
