This trogon lives in very wet mountain-slope forest in Costa Rica. Males are green and red, females are gray and brown, and the birds use the lower and middle forest levels.
The male has an iridescent green head, back, and breast, with red from the lower breast through the belly. The female has grayish upperparts, an olive-brown breast, and a pale red belly. The underside of the tail has fine bars.
It uses the low canopy and middle levels of very wet slope forest. It is usually solitary outside the breeding season and nests in cavities in dead branches or termite mounds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
