This tailorbird occurs in the Visayan Islands. A 1971 Philippine bird account treated castaneiceps as a subspecies and recorded a gray upper back and white underparts.
The 1971 account describes castaneiceps as having a gray upper back, a tail more washed with green, and white underparts with fewer gray streaks. Females are whiter and less gray below.
The species profile lists lowland forest undergrowth, edges, thickets, and second growth as habitat; it also records an invertebrate diet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
