This nocturnal porcupine moves among tree branches. Its fluffy fur can partly hide the spines, and it wraps its tail around branches as it moves.
Its small body is covered in dense fur of variable length. The spines are pale at the base and tip with a black middle, while fur color ranges from gray-yellow to very dark.
It is usually solitary and nocturnal, moving slowly through trees while wrapping its tail around branches. It sometimes descends to the ground and eats leaves, fruit, seeds, roots, and bark.
