This mouse was collected at Malindi on the Kenyan coast. Adults have a light gray head and a white belly and feet. Animals in captivity climbed well and used their tails to grip.
Adults have a pale gray head, with a black stripe running from the front of the eye to the whisker bases. The pure white underside and feet are sharply separated from the upperparts. Large white tufts sit behind the ears, and the whiskers are short. The tail has short white hairs but no terminal tuft.
The adult male collected at Malindi in September 1982 was on a palm. It remained in captivity until May 1984. In the captive observations reported in the original description, the animals climbed well and used their tails to grip.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
