This lory inhabits islands of eastern Indonesia. Purple neck bands and red wings are prominent, though plumage varies among subspecies. It feeds on nectar, pollen, and fruit, usually in pairs or small groups.
Adults have a purple to blue-purple band around the neck and red wings with dark tips. The width of the neck band and the placement of red and purple on the neck, throat, and shoulders differ among subspecies.
Its wild diet includes nectar and pollen, fruit, unripe figs, and possibly insects. It is usually seen in pairs or groups of up to about ten, moving between islands as food availability changes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
