This large rat is recorded on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea. Modern specimens are few, and the paper describes its appearance and habitat from a limited set of captures.
Its back has coarse, dark fur mixed with black guard hairs, sharply contrasting with the cream-colored underside. Its tail is relatively short.
Recorded animals came from a subsistence garden and sago-palm grove, as well as central hill forest. The authors infer a terrestrial habit from its body form.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
