Its coat changes with region and season, and the tail tip is black. From southern Myanmar through Thailand, it uses forests as well as bamboo-rich places and gardens.
In the south, the back and tail have gray-and-black rings, with reddish tones sometimes on the flanks and legs. In the north, orange-red is stronger in the dry season and gray in the wet season; the tail tip is black.
It uses primary and secondary forest, bamboo-dominated disturbed places, and parks or gardens. It may approach homes or come to the ground, and eats fruit, seeds, bark, and some insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
