This robin lives in Java’s mountains. In a 2020 specimen study, males were glossy dark blue while females had mainly chestnut plumage.
The studied Javan male was glossy dark blue, contrasting with black outer flight feathers. Small white forehead feathers were often hidden while feeding and could show when the bird was agitated.
The male’s courtship song is a simple descending warble of four to five notes, usually with an ascending last note.
The studied female had bright chestnut head and upperparts, a small grey wedge on the lower throat, a rufous breast band, and dark grey underparts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
