The Fiordland Penguin breeds on islands and coasts in southwestern New Zealand. It has yellow crests and nests in places such as coastal forest, rock crevices, and caves.
A yellow crest extends back from above the eyes; the head and back are black, with white underparts.
It nests in coastal forest and scrub, rock crevices, and caves. Both parents incubate eggs and care for the chicks.
In adults, a thin strip of black skin borders the base of the orange bill. Snares crested penguins have a broader, prominent area of pink skin at the bill base.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
