This ground-dwelling bird inhabits Brazilian grasslands. A study at one Minas Gerais site examined the soils where it nested.
It is about 12.5 cm long, with buff-brown upperparts, pale underparts, fine brown streaking on the chest, a pale eyebrow and a short rufous tail.
It forages on foot on the ground and rarely perches on low shrubs. A study examined 43 nests at one Minas Gerais locality; most were in C-horizon and silty soils.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
