This social mole-rat is known mainly from the Ikelenge pedicle of northwestern Zambia and adjacent areas. Colonies were observed in seasonal grasslands, degraded miombo woodland, and villages. Its distribution is limited; records in Angola are only presumed.
It is medium-sized and lacks clear markings on the head. The absence of a distinct head pattern is one of the traits used in the original species diagnosis.
The species is social, and colonies were observed in seasonal grasslands called dambos, degraded miombo woodland, and villages. These are the settings reported in the original abstract; it does not describe feeding behavior at each site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
