The Abyssinian hare lives in open parts of East Africa. Its coat differs somewhat between Somali and Ethiopian animals.
In northern Somalia, the shoulders and thighs are gray, the upper rump is black, and the belly is white with pale buff sides. Ethiopian animals are described as somewhat lighter.
Its behavior has been little studied. It is thought to feed at night and use small shrubs for shade and cover during the day.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
