The smoky mouse lives in isolated populations in southeastern mainland Australia. Its dark grey fur and long pink tail are easy to distinguish.
Its fur is soft and dense, dark grey above and light grey below. The nose and eye rings are dark. The long pink tail has a brown stripe along the top.
It raises and lowers its tail when threatened. It eats seeds, fungi, fruit, and invertebrates, and shelters in communal burrows underground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
