Gould's mouse was reported as visually and genetically identical to the living Djoongari population on islands in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The government article presents that island population as extant.
It has a shaggy coat. The article reports an average body mass of about 45 g.
It is omnivorous, eating flowers, leaves, fungi, insects, and spiders. At night it travels through tunnels and runways; above-ground nests provide daytime refuges.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
