This striped mouse occurs in the Ethiopian Highlands. It has a black mid-dorsal line whose strength and underside color differ between specimens from the Abyssinian and Harar plateaus.
Specimens from the Abyssinian Plateau have dark sandy-brown upper fur, a faint black mid-dorsal stripe, and slightly paler underparts. Harar Plateau specimens have a clearer stripe and a cream-colored underside.
Earlier highland surveys captured most specimens by flooding burrows with water. This records burrow use at capture sites; it does not describe the species' full daily behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
