A small finch with a red face and yellow wing patches. It eats seeds and also visits gardens and parks in Britain.
Adults have a red face, a black-and-white head, and yellow wing patches. Juveniles have plainer heads and faces, but keep the yellow wing stripe.
Its fine bill helps it take seeds from thistles, teasels, and dandelions. In Britain, some birds stay all year, while others move south for winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
