A central Chinese parrotbill of high-elevation forest. It uses bamboo thickets and eats beetles and other insects; flocks may shift elevation locally when bamboo dries out.
About 18–20 cm long, with a gray-brown head, long dark eyebrow, pale eye-ring, pinkish cheek streak, blackish throat patch and orange-yellow bill.
It uses bamboo-rich understory in mixed conifer and broadleaf forest at 1,500–3,660 m. Small flocks feed on beetles and other insects. Local movements to different elevations are reported when bamboo dries out.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
