This large cuckooshrike is recorded from New Guinea and the Bismarck and Solomon Islands to eastern Australia. The account describes it foraging in forest canopies.
It is about 22–29 cm long. The head and upperparts are dark bluish grey, with a black eye-line; the underparts have bold black-and-white bars, and the bill and legs are black.
It eats mainly fruit, including figs, as well as insects. The account describes pairs or small parties perching in the canopy and making short flights to forage.
