This range-restricted crescentchest is documented in the middle Marañón River basin of northwestern Peru.
The male described in the paper has a black crown, cream eyebrow and throat, pale-edged wing feathers, a black breast band, and reddish underparts. The paper says the female has paler underparts.
The Peruvian survey sites were in seasonally dry valley forest and Andean scrub. Earlier records cited by the paper place the bird low in the vegetation or on the ground, with higher perches used when singing.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
