A blue robin of Sumatra's mountains. A 2020 study found differences from the Javan population in courtship song, plumage saturation, and tail length.
The male is dark blue, with little contrast against the black primaries. White feathers mark the forecrown. The female is also dark, lacks bright chestnut tones, and has a dark grey belly.
A Sumatra transect report recorded the bird, then called Sunda Blue Robin, in the undergrowth of high-montane forest. The team also recorded one individual at 889 m.
A bioacoustic study describes the male courtship song as a complex, tinkling motif with 5-8 high-pitched elements that rise and fall before ending on a rising, fading pitch. In that study's comparison, it was about twice as long as the Javan population's song.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
