The New Ireland Friarbird is a large honeyeater of montane forest on New Ireland. Detailed diet and breeding records are lacking in the source.
It is about 32 cm long, dark brown to blackish above, with a heavy, long, decurved bill. The forehead is speckled silver-white, the throat is silvery white, and the underparts are paler brown. The sexes are similar; juveniles have a yellow wash on the throat.
It lives in montane forest on New Ireland, from about 750 to 2,200 m and perhaps higher. The source says diet and breeding information are lacking and describes residency only as presumed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
