The Himalayan striped squirrel has distinctive back stripes that connect with a pale stripe on the face. A field study in northeastern India recorded it feeding on tree trunks and bark.
In the summer coat, the outer dark stripes on the back are paler than the inner ones. The narrow outer pale stripes join a distinct pale stripe on the face.
In Arunachal Pradesh it has been observed feeding on bark along tree trunks below 10 m. It inhabits tropical and subtropical forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
