The Okarito Brown Kiwi is a nocturnal kiwi of lowland forest on New Zealand's South Island. It has pale grey-brown, streaked feathers and a long bill.
It is flightless, has no tail, and has very small wings. Its pale grey-brown feathers are streaked brown and black; the long bill and short legs are pale.
It is active at night and probes leaf litter and rotting logs for earthworms and other invertebrates. By day it rests in burrows, hollow logs, and other cover.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
