A tanager of Andean montane forest from Colombia through Peru, with a grey hood, olive upperparts and yellow underparts.
It has a grey head and upper breast, olive upperparts and yellow underparts. PeruAves reports grey bills in chrysogaster and red bills in rubrirostris.
It forages in pairs, small groups or mixed flocks in humid montane forest, with the Peru account placing local records around 2,000–3,200 m.
