This large thrasher has pale eyes and a scaly-looking brown body. Across Caribbean islands it uses forest and coffee-farm habitat and eats fruit, insects, and other small prey.
About 28–30 cm long, it has brown markings that give it a scaly appearance, pale pearly eyes, and a large, strong bill.
Active by day, it uses several forest layers and eats large insects, fruit and berries, as well as small vertebrates and eggs. It nests in tree cavities and artificial structures.
In Puerto Rico’s Luquillo forest, three eggs was the most frequent clutch size, and birds nested repeatedly within the same breeding season.
In the Luquillo forest records, the median incubation period was 14 days and the median nestling period was 20 days.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
