This black bird with a blue gloss lives in woodland and scrub around the Yucatán Peninsula. At Sian Ka’an in Mexico it uses coastal vegetation with palms and shrubs and feeds on fruit and other foods.
It is about 20 cm long, with black, blue-glossed plumage and a dark bill. At Sian Ka’an in 2008, birds retaining juvenile flight feathers more often had brown eyes, whereas other birds more often had reddish eyes.
It uses forest, dense brush, and hedges and eats fruit, berries, and seeds.
At Sian Ka’an in 2008, both members of the pair helped build the nest, with males doing most of the construction. Females incubated during daytime observations.
At Sian Ka’an in 2008, many nests were supported by Thrinax radiata palms or Pithecellobium keyense shrubs. Nests in the palms were largely made from fibres of the same palm.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
