This barbet occurs in forests on Java and Bali. Its green body has yellow, red, and black markings; a short survey in East Java recorded it in a more open part of the canopy.
It has a green body, yellow crown and cheeks, red throat and chest, and a black band across the upper breast. Black, blue, and red markings occur on the head.
It inhabits lowland to montane forest. A two-day survey near a waterfall in East Java recorded it in a relatively open, well-lit part of the canopy.
