This hummingbird occurs in western Mexico and reaches southeastern Arizona. It uses mid-elevation canyons and streamside woodland, feeding on nectar and small insects.
Cornell distinguishes a turquoise crown in northern birds from a violet-blue crown in southern birds. The underparts are white, and the long orange-red bill has a black tip.
It drinks nectar and also gleans or catches small insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
