This small hummingbird is about 8 cm long and ranges through Amazonia and the eastern Andean foothills. It is often found in the understory and at forest edges.
Its plumage is cinnamon-rufous. Males show a black breast band that is reduced or absent in the duller female; the long bill is slightly decurved. The lower mandible is mostly yellow, and the tapered tail feathers end in whitish buff.
It uses the understory and edges of humid lowland and foothill forests, including second growth. It is a nectar-feeding hummingbird.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
