A small dove seen in Britain in spring and summer. Its chestnut-and-black mottled back and ground-feeding habits make it distinctive.
Its back and wings are mottled chestnut and black. It has a black-and-white neck pattern and a red eye-ring.
After returning to Britain in spring, it nests in scrub and tall hedgerows. It feeds on seeds on the ground and migrates to West Africa for winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
