The Cape blesmol is a thick-furred underground mammal that feeds on roots, tubers and bulbs below ground.
Long, fluffy fur covers its short-limbed, stocky body and can hide the tail. The coat is buff to orange, the hands, feet and tail are white, and the face has white spots.
Adults are usually solitary and spend most of their time underground. They store roots, tubers and bulbs; males drum with their hind feet to signal during breeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
