The Hooded Parrot lives in dry open woodland and grassland in northern Australia. It feeds on seeds on the ground and nests inside termite mounds.
The male has a black head, blue-green face and underside, golden wing patches, and red-orange undertail coverts. The female is mostly dull green.
During the dry season it feeds on seeds of seasonal grasses and perennial herbs. It breeds from January to April, nesting in a ground-based, turreted termite mound.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
